Case Study: MW&T × SwissBorg Redefining the Crypto Wallet Experience

Overview:

As part of a collaboration between MW&T and SwissBorg, I led the UX/UI design for a crypto wallet experience.

The project aimed to make SwissBorg’s platform more approachable for everyday users — simplifying navigation, clarifying wallet types, and giving users a unified view of their portfolio.

This case study captures how I approached a complex problem and turned it into a streamlined, intuitive product experience.

Problem

SwissBorg’s wallet offered multiple products — Spot, Derivatives, MT5, Stake, and Collateral — each with valuable functionality.

  • No visual hierarchy Every wallet carried equal weight, causing cognitive overload.

  • Fragmented balance view Users couldn’t see their overall asset distribution in one place.

  • Scattered key actions Simple tasks like Transfer or Convert were hidden under layers of menus.

  • High entry barrier New users felt intimidated by terminology and screen density.

Key challenges identified:

User Research & Key Insights

We conducted user test & quick audits across beginner and experienced crypto users exchange wallet section, identified key areas to improve.

Terminology confusion

Users found wallet names like Spot and Funding unclear. These terms made sense to advanced traders but confused new users, leading to hesitation about where funds were stored. This revealed a need for simpler language and clearer context within the interface.

No single dashboard

Participants wanted one unified view to check their total balance and asset distribution. Constantly switching between wallets disrupted their flow, highlighting the importance of a centralized dashboard for a quick overview

Inconsistent layout

Key actions like deposit and transfer appeared in different places across wallets. This inconsistency increased cognitive load and reduced user confidence. Establishing a consistent structure across screens became a top priority

Feature overload

First-time users felt overwhelmed by too many visible options. Advanced tools cluttered the interface and distracted from core actions. Simplifying the layout and progressively revealing complexity was essential for smoother onboarding

User personas

Based on user feedback, i developed personas on behavioral insights gathered from users to represent our target user groups.

Information Architect & User Flow

To resolve confusion, I redesigned the user flow diagram from scratch with emphasis on progressive disclosure — showing only what’s relevant at each step.

Low-fidelity Wireframes

I began with quick paper sketches to explore the overall structure and grouping of key elements. The focus was on clarity, hierarchy, and effortless navigation.

Hi-fidelity Wireframes

Seamless Final Design Experience

we have developed a solution that perfectly aligns with our goals and design principles.

Style Guide

The guide emphasizes a clean, modular, and data-centric aesthetic, balancing accessibility with a premium fintech look.

Dark Theme Variations

As crypto trading often occurs across different time zones, many users interact with the wallet during late hours. To ensure comfort and reduce eye strain, I introduced a dark theme that complements the brand’s visual identity.

Created prototypes for user testing.

To demonstrate the redesigned flow in action, I created an interactive prototype highlighting key user journeys — from wallet to converting tokens to reviewing total balances.

Usability Testing & Results

After developing the interactive prototype, I conducted moderated remote usability tests with six participants representing a mix of crypto beginners and active traders. The objective was to assess the clarity of navigation, and user confidence during high-stake actions like deposits and conversions.

Participants were asked to complete four key tasks.

  • View and interpret their total wallet balance.

  • Transfer assets between different wallets.

  • Convert small or inactive balances.

  • Add new funds to their account.

The redesigned wallet demonstrated measurable improvements across all usability test.
